Over the last couple of weeks, I have been traveling out of the country and home again. At each place, I had to adjust my starting point in order to keep on schedule – that ship was not going to wait for me if I didn’t return according to their time frame.
In life, whatever we plan as an end goal, we have to know where our current location is, right now, or how will we know how long it will take to arrive at our destination?
Each “map app” on our smartphone, computer or other device that gives directions asks two things:
- Where do you want to go?
- What’s your current location?
Based on those two criteria, it then can give you variable directions depending on traffic, whether you want to take surface streets, avoid toll roads and then you can make your choice and start your journey.
There are many routes that can get you to the same place – it’s all a matter of choice – and the understanding that sometimes there will be detours caused by “under construction” moments and sometimes that when we reach a fork in the road, we decide, at that moment, to “take the road less traveled.”
It’s not necessary to wait until the beginning of a new year to assess what we want to create for the next year of our life – why not figure out where you are, right now. Do you need to move forward from a stuck location?
Do you need to adjust your path?
Don’t let that ship leave with you still in port. Hop on board and begin the next stage in that exciting journey called life.
