How many of you have heard of Sudoku? How many of you could care less – its numbers…
How many of you play Sudoku?
I was playing this game the other day, and it dawned on me how powerful my unintentional “pause button” moment was. I had been struggling to complete a puzzle and for the life of me, I couldn’t see a pattern that I could use.
I didn’t want to use the “solve” pages in the back, so I set it down.
The next time I picked up the Sudoku book I looked at the puzzle I had been working on and what – there were all these easy to see positions for the number sequences!
Okay…it got me thinking.
Life lessons from Sudoku
Whenever you are in the midst of a challenge – business, financial, personal – what if you just walked away for a moment, took a “time out”, hit that “pause button” and then came back to the task?
By giving yourself space, a deep breath moment, you could view the challenging situation from a different perspective – see the patterns that had been hiding in plain sight.
Some time a space, what I call hitting the “pause button” really can allow you to see the forest from the trees.
Hurrying to meet a deadline and not taking the time to evaluate the proper steps can lead to cost overruns because of missed opportunities and misunderstandings. Embrace the power of the pause and find yourself more in control and completing tasks in a more effective and timely manner.
Hit the pause button – and go ahead and try a Sudoku puzzle – who knows you might like it…
