This has been period of listening for me. That’s why I have had “radio silence.”
Since the first week in November, I have heard fear, elation at change, and confusion. And as Inauguration Day is approaching the rhetoric is increasing.
So how can the skillset of the Adapter Factor assist this transition?
Let’s start with…
Hit the Pause button
When “knee jerk” reactions cause you to head down a path that is scary do some evaluation and start by “hitting the pause button.” Stop and with that pause button is the mute button. Look around and see what is actually happening.
Next…
Assess the Situation
How will this transition affect you personally, professionally and with your business? Have you seen changes? Have you received materials that indicate that serious changes are about to occur?
Figure Out the Why
How did this occur? Is there any way to change the outcome? Is there a way to evaluate what occurred? Is this something you sought?
Your Current GPS location
Where are you located? Is this change going to make you change locations? Has you “end goal” changed? Do you need to change your destination?
Manage Your Environment
Is there something in your business or personal environment that can be relocated to better prepare for this transition? Are you holding onto items which are not productive to a new way of thinking? How you allowed messages to be received which don’t support your end goals?
As you work through each of these steps, you will realize that you have more control that you thought. Change WILL happen, even if it does scare the hell out of you! Are you the ostrich or the tortoise? One thinks if his head is in a hole and he can’t see anything that nothing bad will happen. The other realizes that “slow and steady” wins the race and figures out ways to reach his goal.
Define yourself. Don’t let anyone else do that for you. You are powerful and change can be your friend. All you have to do is decide.
